House Tour: My Brother's House

My brother and sister-in-law, who live just a mile away from us, own a gorgeous Dutch Colonial house built in 1907. All of the moldings, doors, and hardwood floors are original to the home. It has 6 bedrooms and 1.5 baths. My sister-in-law definitely has an eye for design as you can see in the pictures below. Enjoy the house tour!

Julia over at Hooked on Houses had a fun idea to have one big open house tour on August 5th all over the blogosphere! I joined in by posting the house tour above. Check out more house tours at the Hooked on House Tours: Blog Party Headquarters.

For a house tour of our own house, check out my before and after posts or check out the photos and slideshows on the right sidebar.

Cute! I love the room that look grey... is it grey or blue? Anyway, it's so hard for me to figure out how to use cool colors. Very nice example.

Your SIL has done an amazing job and what a great eye she has!

I also Loved my visit along the side with you too! You have done so many amazing things. I expecially love that wall color in your dining room. I really want to go in there and sit a spell. I know I'll be back to have another visit as there is so much to take in.

What a great place. I love the new kitchen and how it ties in with the rest of the house. Historic homes are always such fun to decorate - so many possibilities!

I love this house! Your sister in law has done a beautiful job with the place. I have to confess though that at first I was only looking at the before and afters of your place. Great job! I live in a fixer and it gives me hope that *one day* we'll be finished and it will look fabulous too.

Boy, it's so hard to pick out my favorite thing about this house, but that powder room is a definite contender! So is that trimwork over the entryway in the foyer. Wow!

I so admire people who take on older houses. They have so much character. I especially like that they did not paint the brick mantel.

I love that pumpkin color on the walls in the eating area...and the black and white checkered floor, that's fun!

Stop by my open house if you can, thanks!

Super home! I'm a sucker for black and white checkered floors. I love how they used the large tiles and checkered the bathroom floor too, never would've thought to do that... look great!

I enjoyed touring your home as well. Marvelous changes, lots o' work!! Well done!

Wow! This is great. The blues and greens are similar to ones I've used in my house so I felt right at home. :-)

I also love the shape of the house from the outside...so unique. I can't wait to spend more time going through your blog.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!

The house tour today has been a lot of fun and I've loved reading all the comments! I knew their house would be a great one to showcase for the tour because it's just so beautiful.

And thanks to everyone for checking out my own house photos too - we appreciate all of your compliments!

jaelou - yes the color of the living room is gray as well as the dining room. Makes me want to use a shade like that in my own living room too!

rahd - it's hard to believe, but none of the wood trim work had to be stripped! There are only a couple of the rooms in the house where the woodwork is painted and they didn't change the paint.
